| Sometimes we have to cross the street when it rains. |
Mark 10:21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
That`s how Jesus responds to me: He beholds me, and loves me, but knows that I lack so much and understands how hard it will be for me. But patiently, He gives me commandments and prepares the way for me to keep them. I have learned a lot about prayerful reflection at the end of each day. Sometimes we are just so tired and the days are so long and you dont even feel your head hit your pillow because you are so dusty and hot and tired... but endurance. That prayer and accountability at the end of each night is so key. It helps us to see what we have done well in the day and what we can do better tomorrow. I love progression. (Ari)
This week we found Jenifer Minera again. I love her. I think I told you about meeting her a few weeks ago- We went to visit her sister Jaquelin who is also our investigator but she wasn`t home so we asked if she, Jenifer, would listen to a message about Jesus Christ. She just looked at us stunned and we entered and felt like we needed to talk about the Atonement and everything we said she just shook her head and said it was just what she needed. The spirit was so strong that first cita but since then we haven`t been able to get back in contact with her. Well we went back this week and she was there with a boy. They let us in and we sang Nearer My God to Thee. The boy sang it super well (which is so not normal here) so I asked if he had sung it before and he told us that he had been baptized years ago with his family but then went inactive. He also lives in our area and his grandma is an active member so that is cool. We taught the Restoration and the spirit came again, SO strong. I cannot tell you how much I love reciting the first vision. If you want people to feel the spirit you just need to tell that story and in the words of Joseph Smith. The spirit always comes. They asked questions and were participating so much and so happy. At the end they both commited to praying and reading and asking to know the truth.
So she came to church with us on Sunday and when we walked in she got so happy waving at some people and said that they were her cousins. So that is fun :) They are a family of converts that baptized about 2 years ago. They went a little inactive, especially the dad because of work, but we have been visiting them since I got here and working so hard to put goals and get going on their progression and they are getting sealed this friday :) So pray for la familia Cayax. And for Jenifer.
We have taught a lot about the plan of salvation recently because of all that has happened with people`s families and this week a scripture in Alma really stood out to me.
¨Therefore, prepare ye the way of the Lord, for the time is at hand that all men shall reap a reward of their works, according to that which they have been—if they have been righteous they shall reap the salvation of their souls, according to the power and deliverance of Jesus Christ; and if they have been evil they shall reap the damnation of their souls, according to the power and captivation of the devil.¨ Alma 9:28
I love that it says ¨according to that which they have been¨. It doesn`t matter how many medals and trophies and money and houses and cars... it just matter who we are. And we become that kind of people- a Zion people- by living the gospel. I am so grateful to be able to partake of the Sacrament each week. Partake is an action word that makes me think of being part of something. Not just touching it or holding it, but participating in this sacred ordinance with the Savior. I love Him for all that He has done for me and all that He left for me to do on the earth. I want to act well my part.
This week we were with the familia Polio on the day that little Javier completed 4 months of life. They asked me to calculate how many days that is and so I did.... and that started the next 5 minutes of calculating how many days each person has lived. haha I have lived a little over 7,650 days. Wow. I looked up at Xiomara and jokingly said ¨Man that is a lot of a time. What have I dont with my 7,000 days?... I haven`t done anything.¨ She just looked at me, smiled, and pointing to herself said- ¨You have done more than you will ever know.¨ Oh how I love these people! Life is rich. I am so blessed. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. Jesus Christ lives. His Atonement is real. And I have a family that loves and lives the gospel. That is all I need. And that is all I want the rest of this world to know and have. Onward and upward.
Hope it`s the best week!
